Product Description

BR-CCF2TH | 6V 5000mAh Lithium Battery — Wire Leads and Connector / 2-Cell C-Size / FANUC Alpha ABS Backup

Wire Leads and Connector — The Field-Proven Interface

The BR-CCF2TH is delivered with wire leads terminating in a connector — the interface configuration that defines how the battery connects to its host FANUC Alpha servo amplifier. This terminal type is specifically engineered for the servo amplifier installation environment:

Flexibility under vibration: The wire leads between the cell pack and the connector flex — absorbing the mechanical vibration from machine tool operation without transmitting vibration stress to the cell pack's internal joints. Direct rigid connection would risk internal cell fatigue over years of continuous vibration exposure.

Polarised connector: The moulded 2-pin connector ensures correct polarity — it cannot be inserted reversed. This matters in the servo amplifier battery compartment where the connector is often accessed in awkward, poorly-lit locations during maintenance.

Defined cable length: The wire leads are sized for the standard depth of FANUC Alpha servo amplifier battery compartments — the cable length allows the cell pack to sit at the back of the compartment with the connector reaching the socket without excess cable that would need to be managed inside the compartment.

Evolution of FANUC Servo Battery Technology

The BR-CCF2TH represents an earlier generation in FANUC's servo battery evolution — using the physically larger C-size cell format before the later transition to smaller 2/3A-size

quad-packs (BR-2/3AGCT4A) and A-size pairs (BR-AGCF2W):

First generation Alpha ABS: FANUC Alpha ABS (Absolute Positioning System) servo amplifiers — A06B-6073, A06B-6079, A06B-6080, A06B-6096 series — were designed with battery compartments sized for the C-size cell pack. The wire-lead/connector format of BR-CCF2TH was the original OEM battery for these drives.

Why C-size was chosen: At the time of Alpha servo amplifier design, the C-size format provided the combination of 6V output and high capacity (5000mAh) in a single-connector battery pack. The wire-lead connector interface allowed battery replacement without tools or soldering — an important serviceability criterion for drives expected to remain in production service for 15–20 years.

C-size capacity advantage: The 5000mAh (30Wh) energy content of the BR-CCF2TH exceeds the capacity of later smaller-format packs — extending backup duration in installations with multiple Alpha axes or extended shutdown periods.

Where BR-CCF2TH Is Still Used

Three decades after their introduction, FANUC Alpha servo amplifiers remain in service in older CNC machine tools globally. These machines continue to operate productively in job shops, component manufacturers, and specialist machining operations. The BR-CCF2TH continues to serve these installations:

Job shop CNC maintenance: Older machining centres and turning centres with FANUC Alpha drives require BR-CCF2TH battery replacement as part of periodic CNC preventive maintenance — keeping absolute encoder positions valid through planned and unplanned shutdowns.

Plant life extension: Facilities that have extended the operating life of older FANUC-equipped machine tools rely on BR-CCF2TH availability for planned maintenance intervals.

FAQ

Q1: Why does BR-CCF2TH use C-size cells rather than the smaller A-size or 2/3A-size cells used in other FANUC batteries?

The Alpha ABS amplifier battery compartment was designed for the C-size format when the Alpha drive was developed — before the subsequent miniaturisation of FANUC servo electronics that enabled smaller battery formats in later Beta and Alpha iSV products. C-size cells offer the advantage of higher intrinsic capacity (2500mAh per cell) compared to A-size (1800mAh) or 2/3A-size (1200mAh) cells — at the same 3V nominal cell voltage.

Q2: Can BR-CCF2TH be replaced while the FANUC machine is running?

Yes. With the servo amplifier and CNC powered on, the amplifier supply maintains ABS encoder memory. The wire-lead connector can be unplugged and the new battery connected without losing absolute position data. Maintain positive battery connection throughout — avoid any period where both the amplifier power and the battery are simultaneously absent.

Q3: Is BR-CCF2TH interchangeable with smaller FANUC servo batteries like BR-AGCF2W?

No. BR-CCF2TH uses C-size cells in a different physical package from BR-AGCF2W (A-size cells). The two packs serve different FANUC amplifier families with different battery compartment sizes and different energy requirements. The connector may appear similar but the cell pack bodies are different sizes. Fit only the battery specified in the FANUC amplifier's maintenance documentation.

Q4: How do I confirm the BR-CCF2TH battery condition before a planned shutdown?

Measure the battery's open-circuit voltage at the connector with a multimeter while disconnected from the amplifier. A healthy BR-CCF2TH reads approximately 6V. Voltage significantly below 5.5V indicates approaching end-of-life. The FANUC CNC's alarm history should also be checked — battery alarm 9F entries indicate the battery has already triggered a low-voltage warning during previous operation.
