Part Number (Component): C98043-A7001-L1
Market Order Number: 6RY1703-0AA00
Related Variant: C98043-A7001-L2 (includes terminals)
Manufacturer: Siemens AG (Germany/Romania)
The C98043-A7001-L1 is the CUD1 (Control Unit Digital 1) board — the main digital control processor for the SIMOREG DC-MASTER 6RA70 DC drive series. It is the drive's brain: two microprocessors run all closed-loop control functions (armature current and speed regulation), manage fieldbus communications, and hold the complete drive parameter set.
The L1 designation identifies the first design generation of the CUD1, applicable to drives in Production States A1 and A2. These drives accept software versions 1.xx and 2.xx only. Later Production State A3 drives use the C98043-A7001-L2, which runs software version 3.xx and above. Installing the wrong L-series board or software version causes the drive to fail initialisation.
The related variant C98043-A7001-L2 is supplied with its terminal assembly included. The L1 board (this product) is the bare board; terminals are not included.
Critical maintenance point: The CUD1 holds all drive parameters. A parameter backup via DriveMonitor must exist before any CUD1 replacement. Without a backup, the drive requires full recommissioning.

Q1: The SIMOREG shows F063 (RAM fault) at every power-up. Is the C98043-A7001-L1 the cause?
F063 and F064 at power-up indicate an internal memory fault on the CUD1. These faults originate on the board itself. If the fault persists after a power cycle, the CUD1 has failed and requires replacement.
Q2: Can C98043-A7001-L2 replace L1 if L1 is unavailable?
No. L2 is designed for Production State A3 drives and requires software version 3.xx. Installing L2 hardware with L1-compatible software in an A1/A2 drive produces an incompatible combination — the drive will not initialise correctly.
Q3: There is no parameter backup. What is required for recommissioning?
Collect all available MTB documentation and the SIMOREG 6RA70 commissioning guide. Enter motor nameplate data, run regulator auto-tuning, and reconfigure I/O and setpoints from scratch. Allow at least a full day for a drive with no starting parameter set.
Q4: The drive is being replaced by SINAMICS DCM. Is the C98043-A7001-L1 still needed?
No. SINAMICS DCM replaces the entire 6RA70 converter including the CUD1. The DC motor is retained; the CUD1 and all other 6RA70 boards are decommissioned with the old converter. Parameters are re-entered using SINAMICS DCM's own commissioning tools.
Q5: Where is the C98043-A7001-L1 sourced after discontinuation in 2007?
The specialist industrial DC drive aftermarket is the only supply channel. Reputable DC drive repair companies hold tested exchange boards with warranty. Confirm the L-series matches L1 (not L2) before purchasing.
