The 6ES7138-4CB10-0AB0 is the PM-E power module for Siemens ET200S distributed I/O systems. In an ET200S station, the PM-E module serves as the electrical foundation rather than a data-processing component.
It supplies load voltage to the electronic modules in its voltage group and provides continuous voltage monitoring. All actuator outputs and signals sent to field devices depend on the PM-E delivering stable, monitored power.
This module offers exceptional versatility with its wide voltage range, handling DC load voltages from 24 to 48V and AC load voltages from 24V through 120V up to 230V. This eliminates the need for multiple power module variants across different system sections.
Note: This product is discontinued. Siemens now produces the 6ES7138-4CB11-0AB0 as its direct replacement. Existing systems continue to operate, but maintenance requires sourcing the original module as the successor may not be drop-in compatible in all configurations.

The PM-E continuously monitors the supply voltage across its entire voltage group. When voltage drops below threshold or disappears, the module immediately detects and reports the fault at the hardware level without waiting for CPU polling.
Diagnostic information travels through two simultaneous paths:
Short-circuit protection utilizes a replaceable fast-blow fuse that opens during output short circuits to protect downstream field wiring and the module itself. The module also includes reverse polarity protection to prevent damage from incorrect DC supply wiring.
In an ET200S station, the PM-E module defines the beginning of a voltage group. Electronic modules installed to its right share its load voltage.
Multiple PM-E modules in the same station create independent voltage groups, allowing different supply voltages for different sections while sharing the same PROFIBUS DP connection and CPU addressing.
This architecture enables a single ET200S head station to serve field devices with varying voltage requirements — for example, 230V AC contactors in one voltage group and 24V DC solenoids in another.
The compact 15 mm terminal width of the 6ES7138-4CB10-0AB0 maintains narrow voltage group boundaries on the mounting rail.
The red LED indicates a fault in the voltage group — typically loss of supply voltage, a blown fuse, or voltage dropping below the monitoring threshold. First check the load supply voltage at the PM-E terminals. If correct, check the replaceable fuse. If both are intact, the module itself may have faulted.
In most cases, yes — the -4CB11-0AB0 was designed as a direct replacement. However, verify the specific firmware version of the ET200S interface module and any configuration settings in STEP 7 before substitution, as some configurations may require parameter updates.
The backup function allows the ET200S station to maintain the last output states when the PLC CPU transitions to STOP mode or communication is interrupted. This prevents unintended output changes during CPU stops that could cause machine or process problems.
A fuse that opens immediately indicates a persistent short circuit downstream — in field wiring, a connected actuator, or a damaged electronic module. Do not replace the fuse again without identifying and clearing the fault. Disconnect field wiring and test each circuit individually to locate the short.
This module was designed for PROFIBUS DP-based ET200S stations. PROFINET ET200S stations use different interface module types. Confirm the communication protocol of the ET200S head station before mixing power modules from different variants, as the system configuration context differs.
