Servo Motor Driver
>
The V1000 platform applies open-loop current vector control — not simple V/f — even at the 1 HP entry level. The algorithm calculates the motor's current state in real time without a feedback encoder, delivering 200% starting torque at 0.5 Hz. On a standard induction motor, that means the drive can start a loaded conveyor, compressor, or mixer from a standstill with the same authority that much larger drives apply to their loads.
The BBA suffix designates the open chassis (IP20) variant — designed for integration into a customer-supplied control cabinet or machine panel where the enclosure handles environmental protection. The open chassis format is slightly more compact than the NEMA 1 enclosed variant and provides more direct wiring access. The heat sink and integral cooling fan require vertical mounting and the minimum clearances specified in the V1000 installation manual to maintain airflow.

Every V1000 carries dual ND/HD ratings that cover different load classes without requiring a different drive model:
Normal Duty (2.1A, 120% / 60s): Fans, pumps, and variable-torque loads where starting and peak current demands are moderate. The 120% overload headroom handles normal inertial starts on light machinery.
Heavy Duty (1.8A, 150% / 60s): Conveyors, mixers, compressors, and constant-torque loads where the motor torque at start or during acceleration regularly exceeds steady-state requirements. The 150% overload capacity handles the sustained peak current of a loaded start without tripping.
Select ND or HD at commissioning via parameter setting — it is a software choice in the drive, not a different hardware unit.
The built-in RS-485/Modbus RTU port (CN5 connector) allows the drive to accept speed references, respond to start/stop commands, and return status data from a PLC or HMI — no additional option card required. For more advanced fieldbus integration (EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, MECHATROLINK-II), Yaskawa's SI-series option cards plug into the drive's option port.
Q1: What is the difference between CIMR-VB4A0004BBA and CIMR-VU4A0004FAA?
Both are V1000 drives rated for 1 HP / 0.75 kW at 480V three-phase with identical drive electronics and performance. The BBA suffix is the open chassis (IP20) for installation inside a customer panel. The FAA is the NEMA 1 enclosed variant with its own protective housing for standalone mounting.
Q2: Does the V1000 support both ND and HD from the same unit?
Yes. Normal Duty (fans, pumps) and Heavy Duty (conveyors, compressors) are both available on the same unit, selected by parameter during commissioning. ND rates this unit at 1 HP / 2.1A with 120% overload; HD rates it at 0.75 HP / 1.8A with 150% overload.
Q3: Can the drive be controlled via PLC over a network?
Yes. The built-in RS-485/Modbus RTU port connects to PLCs and HMIs without additional hardware. For Ethernet or fieldbus protocols, Yaskawa's optional SI-series cards add EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, and other protocol support.
Q4: What motor types are compatible?
The V1000 supports standard three-phase AC induction motors and permanent magnet (PM) motors via open-loop vector control without a feedback encoder. For PM motor control, refer to the V1000 technical manual for the correct parameter configuration and motor auto-tuning procedure.
Q5: What installation clearances are required for the open chassis variant?
50mm minimum above and below the drive for airflow, 30mm on each side when multiple drives mount side by side. Mount vertically on a flat surface. Maintain panel ambient temperature between −10°C and +50°C at the drive mounting location.
