The Siemens 6ED1052-1FB00-0BA6 is the LOGO! 230RC — the built-in-display version of Siemens's most popular micro-automation device for 115V/230V AC/DC environments.
It sits at a distinctive position in the automation landscape: too smart to be a relay panel, too compact and cost-effective to justify a full PLC, the LOGO! fills the space between complex relay wiring and proper PLC systems for the thousands of small control tasks that exist in industrial plants, commercial buildings, and infrastructure applications.
The 230RC variant operates directly from the AC mains supply without needing a separate 24V DC transformer or power supply module.
The supply input is the same voltage as the field inputs — wire the unit directly from 115V or 230V AC mains, and the same voltage drives the eight digital inputs. Sensors and switches compatible with 115V/230V AC connect directly to the input terminals.
This direct-mains design significantly simplifies installation in environments where AC-voltage field devices are the norm — there is no intermediate DC power supply to size, install, or maintain.
The four relay outputs provide genuine switching versatility: the potential-free relay contacts can switch different voltages on different output channels, handle resistive loads up to 10A, and drive inductive loads such as motor contactors, solenoid valves, and pump starters up to 3A.
This flexibility — combined with the ability to mix 115V and 230V AC loads across different relay contacts — makes the 230RC the natural choice for AC-powered mechanical equipment control where the PLC outputs need to switch real mains-voltage loads directly without interposing relays.

The LOGO! 0BA6's 200 block limit defines the maximum number of logical connections the circuit programme can contain.
A function block is any element — a contact, a coil, a timer, a counter, a comparator, a special function. A simple on-delay timer circuit consumes three blocks; a comprehensive building automation programme managing lighting, ventilation, and access may use 150–180 blocks before reaching the limit.
The 200-block ceiling comfortably handles the control tasks the LOGO! was designed for: replacing a panel of time switches, relays, and auxiliary contacts with a single programmable device.
For tasks exceeding 200 blocks — more complex sequencing, larger building systems, multi-axis machine control — the 0BA8 with 400 blocks or a SIMATIC S7-1200 is the appropriate step up.
The display on the 230RC (the "RC" designation includes display; the pure version without display is the "RCo") provides three operational functions: on-site programme parameter modification using the four navigation buttons without requiring a PC; up to 40 message texts configurable in Soft Comfort that appear in response to programme conditions ("Pump Running", "Door Open — Alarm", "Tank Empty"); and real-time display of active timer counts, counter values, and analog measurements.
For small standalone installations where a dedicated HMI is not justified, the LOGO!'s own display provides essential status feedback at zero additional hardware cost.
LOGO! expansion modules connect to the right side of the basic unit through direct side-by-side attachment — no bus cable, no rack, no complicated interconnect.
The modules physically clip together and connect electrically through their side connectors, creating a compact row on the DIN rail.
The maximum expandable configuration — 24 DI, 16 DO, 8 AI, 2 AO — is achieved by adding the appropriate mix of LOGO! digital and analog expansion modules.
The AS-Interface communication module extends the LOGO! to control up to 31 AS-Interface slaves; the KNX module integrates the LOGO! directly into building automation networks.
Q1: Can the LOGO! 230RC be programmed directly on the device, or is a PC always required?
Both are possible. The unit supports direct key-panel programming via the four navigation buttons for simple circuits. For complex programmes with many blocks, message texts, and simulation, LOGO! Soft Comfort V6 on a PC is far more efficient.
Programmes are transferred via a PC cable; the LOGO! then runs standalone.
Q2: What loads can the relay contacts switch directly?
10A contacts at 230VAC switch up to 2,300W of resistive load. Inductive loads (contactors, solenoid coils, transformer primaries) are limited to 3A per contact — approximately 690W at 230VAC.
Motor loads above 3A should be driven through an external contactor; the LOGO! relay energises the contactor coil, and the contactor handles the motor current.
Q3: Are 0BA6 expansion modules compatible with 0BA7 or 0BA8 generation LOGO! basic units?
No. Expansion modules are generation-specific — 0BA6 modules work only with 0BA6 basic units. Different generations use different expansion bus protocols and are not interchangeable.
When sourcing replacement or additional expansion modules, always confirm the generation matches the installed basic unit.
Q4: What happens to the LOGO! programme and retentive values during a power failure?
The programme is stored in non-volatile Flash memory and persists indefinitely through power interruptions. Retentive values (counters, timer states, flags configured as retentive) are preserved via EEPROM without a backup battery. Non-retentive values reset to their initial values at power-up.
The choice of which values to make retentive is set in Soft Comfort during programme development.
Q5: What is the upgrade path when a task outgrows the LOGO!'s 200-block limit?
For extended I/O range, LOGO! AS-Interface modules add up to 31 field devices without consuming LOGO! logic capacity.
When the programme itself outgrows 200 blocks, the next step is the SIMATIC S7-1200, which offers 75KB or more of work memory, PROFINET IO, and full PLC instruction set in a comparable compact DIN-rail footprint.
